This rich white chocolate sauce recipe just takes minutes to come together. Use it to make white chocolate mocha drinks, drizzle over ice cream, dip fruits and cookies, and more!

A lot of recipes out there will tell you how to make white chocolate sauce with just two ingredients. Those two ingredients, usually chocolate and cream, is how you make a chocolate ganache not a sauce. A ganache will thicken and set whereas a sauce is used to compliment your food similar to a condiment.

To make a smooth sauce, you need to add a few more ingredients. Don’t worry, they are still simple ingredients and it’s still an easy recipe.
Ingredients Needed for White Chocolate Sauce
White Chocolate Chips: It’s important to use high quality chocolate. Not all white chocolate chips are equal. They vary in flavor and texture. I use Ghirardelli white chocolate chips here because they have a slight caramel flavor and a very smooth mouth feel when melted.
Milk: It’s best to use whole milk but you can definitely get by with 2% (which is what I use most of the time). Do not use anything with lower fat content.
Heavy Cream: Adding cream along with milk, makes the sauce smoother and creamier. Do not use half and half here, only use heavy cream.
Unsalted Butter: Butter in the sauce keeps it smooth and adds some flavor. If you don’t have unsalted butter, you can use salted butter but skip the dash of salt in the recipe.
Sugar: Use regular white granulated sugar.

How to Make White Chocolate Sauce
To make this luscious white chocolate sauce, start by placing white chocolate chips in a medium-sized bowl. Meanwhile, heat the milk in a small saucepan over medium heat, bringing it just to a boil.
Once the milk is bubbling, pour it over the chocolate chips and stir gently until the chocolate melts into a smooth, creamy mixture.
Next, in a large saucepan, combine the cream, butter, and sugar. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it reaches a gentle boil. Once it starts to bubble, pour in the melted white chocolate mixture.
Stir the sauce constantly as it heats, keeping a close eye to avoid burning, and continue until it just begins to boil again.
Finally, remove the saucepan from the heat and carefully pour the hot sauce into a glass jar or container. Let it cool to room temperature before sealing. Once cooled, this rich, velvety white chocolate sauce is ready to drizzle, dip, or spoon over your favorite desserts.

How to Store White Chocolate Sauce
The sauce can be stored in an airtight container or mason jar in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. Let it come to room temperature before serving.
Flavor Variations:
It’s easy to buy a bottle of white chocolate sauce but a homemade white chocolate sauce is just as easy and doesn’t come with any added preservatives. You can also add your own extra flavors to it if you like! Here are some ideas:
Peppermint Extract: A few drops would make a perfect syrup for a peppermint white chocolate mocha drink.

Vanilla Extract: If you really love vanilla, you can enhance the flavor of this sauce by adding a few drops of extract or mixing in some vanilla bean paste to create a speckled look.
Pumpkin Pie Spice: Add some pumpkin pie spice to the sauce and turn any dessert into a pumpkin spice dessert by drizzling on top.
What to Make With White Chocolate Sauce:
You can serve this sauce with a bowl of berries or pour it over ice cream, pancakes and waffles. If that's not enough, here are some more ways…
Drinks: This sauce works like a syrup too. Make your favorite coffee drinks! You can add a tablespoon or two of this white chocolate syrup to your hot coffee or an iced version to make your own white chocolate mocha drink. You can also add a spoonful to your favorite hot chocolate mix.

Glazes: This sauce works beautifully for glazing cupcakes, layer cakes and bundt cakes. It will not set like a ganache so glaze your desserts just before serving.

Plated Desserts: This is the perfect white chocolate sauce to decorate a plate for serving your favorite desserts. If you want to read more about plating desserts, check out my guide- How to Plate a Dessert.
